Walden Federal Raises $1,580 for Backpack Snack Attack

Aug 24, 2011

Walden, NY, September 15, 2010 – Walden Federal has raised $1,580 for Backpack Snack Attack, a program developed in conjunction with the First Reformed Church in Walden. It allows these children to eat at home on weekends when school meals are not available. The caring staff at the Valley Central School District selects the needy children. The Benevolence Team buys the food in individually sized, ready-to-eat packages, packs them in bags, and delivers them to all 7 schools in the Valley Central School District to be privately put in these children’s backpacks to take home for weekends. It takes $5.00 to feed one child for one weekend or $200.00 to feed that one child every weekend for the entire school year.

Walden Federal participated in the program by allowing any employee who donated at least $5.00 to wear blue jeans to work on Thursday, August 19th. The bank matched the amount donated by the employees who participated. Additionally, Walden Federal branches developed their own fundraisers, like bake sales, and invited customers to participate as well.

“We are so grateful to Walden Federal staff and customers who raised over $1,500 for this program – feeding seven local children for a year!” stated Amy Sherwood, AVP, Walden Federal and cheerleader for the Backpack Program. “We thank everyone who participated.”

Walden Federal maintains six full-service branches including Walden, Montgomery, Otisville, Newburgh, inside the Wal-Mart Super Center in Monroe and inside the ShopRite in Monroe. Walden Federal’s Mortgage and Loan Center is located at 74 West Main St, Walden and its Commercial Loan Division is located at 211 S. Plank Rd, Newburgh, next door to Walden Federal’s Newburgh branch.
