Walden, NY, December 20, 2010 – This year Walden Federal held three community shred events at its Montgomery, Monroe and Otisville branches. Customers and community members were invited to bring paper and documents to the Walden Federal branches and have them shredded and recycled at no charge.
These three events resulted in 4 tons of paper being recycled. Based on the metrics established by the Institute of Scrap Recycling, this translates into saving over 60 trees, over 25,000 gallons of water, over 1,500 gallons of oil and over 12 cubic yards of landfill.
“We are delighted that it is not only our money that is green!” stated Thomas Gibney, President. “We thank HV Shred and all our customers and members of the community who participated in this program to save local resources. Walden Federal will continue to offer programs like our Community Shred Days to help make our neighborhoods greener and better.”
Additionally, in the last year, the six Walden federal branches shredded and recycled 6 tons of confidential paperwork, translating into saving over 100 trees, 40,000 gallons of water and 18 cubic yards of landfill.
